Skyscrapers...!

Today in Engineering Construction class, I have learned a lot about foundations. Foundations is a structure that transfer loads to the earth. Foundation is generally divided into two main section; substructure and superstructure. Substructure is the foundation that is build underground. Meanwhile, the superstructure is the one forming the structure of buildings and skyscrapers.

With a strong and well designed foundation, high raised buildings or skyscrapers can be build without worrying of the worst outcome of it..collapsing! Foundations are designed to have an adequate load capacity with limited settlement.

The results of excellent foundation are:

Taiwan’s: Taipei 101, which - at 508 metres (1,667 ft) - had been officially the world's tallest building since 2004.

Emirates Saudi Arabia:Coming soon..the world's soon-to-be tallest buiding is the Burj Dubai. This skyscraper has now topped 688 metres (2,257 ft ) and will be completed in September 2008.
